February 25th marked the date of the Green Products Expo at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. Representatives from a huge number of diverse companies from around the world showed off products with a significant "green" quotient through use of natural ingredients, earth friendly production methods and recyclable packaging. Many exhaustive hours spent examining the products with our members in mind yielded a list of items we think you could use in your car to help you live an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
Juiced Hybrid (www.juicedhybrid.com) offers loads of products specifically for hybrids (mostly the Toyota Prius) including voltage boosters, electronic chip reprogrammers, and the Kiwi, a device that hooks to the OBD II (On-Board Diagnostic System Information) port that offers real-time fuel consumption information.
Ecover (www.ecover.com) produces a series of green home products that include an ecological car wash and car glass & interior cleaner, along with a toilet and bathroom cleaner, dishwashing liquid and laundry soap. Its green quotient comes from the products’ plant and mineral based ingredients, lack of chlorine and phosphates, biodegradability and no animal testing.
One of the products available from Eco Geek Living (www.ecogeekliving.com) includes a flashlight powered by shaking. A metallic element passes through a magnetic field with 60 seconds of shaking, producing enough power for 30 minutes of light from the single LED bulb, or, 12 minutes from all three bulbs. The ‘green factor’ comes from not having to dispose of batteries in a landfill.
SC Johnson has a new line of green cleaners called Nature’s Source that includes a plant-based Windex glass cleaner. No ammonia, bleach, phosphorus or dyes. (www.NaturesScourceCleaners.com)
Disneyfamily.com, who offers green tips and product guides for families, recently conducted a survey of moms to determine which green issues matter most. Among the top items, clean water, recycling and reducing waste and air pollution. (www.Disneyfamily.com)
Earthlust produces custom stainless steel bottles that eliminate plastic bottles going in to landfills. (www.EarthLust.com)
